All that gift buying can leave your bank account lean. Besides the money, coming up with gifts that are not cheesy but useful for a dad who is so geeky he probably has everything he needs to play with can be hard, especially since tech gadgets tend to be hard to come by.

Here are some great gadgets that every nerdy guy wants to have!

1. The Hubsan H501S X4 FPV Brushless Drone

Drones have become the coolest gadget for any guy who considers themselves a geek. They can do incredible things and are available in different sizes and are available for prices lower than $50. Cheap drones have fewer functions and tend to either break easily or get lost as soon as they leave the ground.

The Hubsan H501S X4 FPV Brushless drone is pricier but has functions you wouldn’t find in a cheaper drone. It has a 1080p video which takes great high definition footage.

It has a follow me function which literally follows you. It can help you take great action shots of yourself. You can use the First Person View (FPV) Function to get images of the drone flying in real time. Another great feature on this drone is the altitude lock which keeps your drone flying at an altitude you are comfortable with. It even has a GPS function to return it home as well as a safe mode feature which ensures that the drone will always return home.

FanExpo 2016: Ming-Na Wen

There is a lot to be excited about for self-described Geek, Ming-Na Weh. While she has had some interesting roles in her career, having been a regular on ER and voicing Disney’s Mulan, the last few must have been a real thrill for her to land. She played Camille Wray on Stargate Universe, the comparatively short-lived follow-up to the popular Stargate series’ SG-1 and Atlantis. She then went on to guest star on Eureka as U.S. Senator Michaela Wen. Most recently however, she was positively delighted to be cast as Agent Melinda ”The Cavalry” May on Joss Whedon’s project, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

“I am one of you guys when it comes to this stuff and so when I go to work every day, even when it’s at 3:30 in the morning and I feel like crap, I get so excited because it is an incredible sandbox to be in! I think the reason Marvel is so good at connecting to the people is because we’re telling human stories in a fantastical World. It’s about humanity, about connection & family, and learning whether you can trust and believe in people when they’ve turned on you, and all those elements. And dealing with your own inner demons, which a lot of these characters deal with… Plus explosions and fight scenes and the humour!”

Bath Salts

Geek Inked met the authors of Bath Salts this year at Toronto’s Fan Expo. I don’t recall whether it was Alisse or An that I spoke to but they quickly captured my attention with their sales pitch. Bath Salts is a novel which was conceived after the “Bath Salts” or “Zombie” drug controversy made a splash in the media. To give you a quick primer, if you hadn’t heard of this drug before; it causes violent behaviour and an increased pain tolerance… when people take it, some of them act a little like zombies… So what if a zombie outbreak did happen? Alisse and An wrote this book from their own point of views and structured it as a collection of journal entries.

Amazon Warehouse Daily Deals

We’re launching a new feature called Amazon Daily Deals.

All day, every day, the GeekInked staff will scout the Amazon Warehouse for the best geeky deals.

What’s the Amazon Warehouse, you say?

Amazon Warehouse Deals is a part of Amazon.com that specializes in offering great deals on returned, warehouse-damaged, used, or refurbished products that are in good condition but do not meet Amazon.com rigorous standards as “new.” We also offer products in new and open-box condition.

We at GeekInked LOVE the Warehouse and stalk it non-stop.  It’s a bit hit-or-miss (some of the products come banged up) but it’s a great place to find amazing deals on everything from DVDs to Superhero Costumes.

We figured we’d share our finds with our loyal readers and see how it works.

Jewelry Ideas For The Trendy Geek

The rising trend of men wearing jewelry only goes to show that men’s jewelry is steadily entering mainstream men’s fashion.

Yes, tie pins and cuff links have already been a traditional part of men’s attires for years now, but the fact that bangles, bracelets, necklaces, and rings (to cite a few) are already being widely patronized nowadays only serves to underscore the aforementioned statement.

We’ve even taken the liberty to list down the ones that are selling like hotcakes in Amazon. One notable common denominator among these pieces of jewelry are that they’re inexpensive but very stylish, as evidenced by the satisfactory reviews that they’re received.

FanExpo 2016: James and Oliver Phelps

Potterites poured into the panel: Staves were stored and hoods lowered in anticipation of the Phelps Twins’ arrival. As the hour approached, many were silently casting accio sella spells, finding seats only at the far sides of the hall. My own magic (and forethought) allowed me to apparate a perfect central aisle seat at the very back. We may have arrived in town too late for Tom Felton, but there was no way I’d miss seeing the actors who played my favourite characters from the Harry Potter universe: Fred and George Weasley, played (respectively) by James and Oliver Phelps.

While differentiating between the two identical twins might not be easy, no one present could confuse them for their characters for one unmistakeable reason: They are not ginger. Schoolmates didn’t initially believe them when they said they’d been cast in the first Harry Potter movie. Not even having their hair dyed for the parts convinced them: They thought the Phelps were having them on (messing with them), and that the dye jobs were just taking it too far. The joke was on them when James and Oliver were excused from school for nine months!

Watch Out! Does The Watch Really Choose The Man?

I don’t know about you… but I’m a watch person. Can’t step out of the house without one! I have worn wrist watches since I was “yay high”… and if there’s anything I’ve learned over the years, it’s the fact that you can’t teach a man how to love his watch… it’s a personal thing… deeply personal. It’s almost like an unspoken ritualistic marriage of some sorts between man and an object… a time piece. You don’t choose your men’s watches, they choose you!

We all have a rough idea in our minds about how a good men’s watch should look like; bold, probably in a big manly case, and a sophisticated but awesome looking dial that throws everything at your face, easy to adjust straps, and so many other small things that appeal to us personally. Then there’s the small matter of the actual construction of the watch’s internal mechanism, what makes it tick, its reliability, the ability of the watch to perform outstandingly in terms of precision. And then of course lastly, we want the name to be something our friends either can’t forget, or can’t pronounce! A name that oozes class and commands respect!

I was shopping for some gifts for a cousin’s wedding the other day and I was almost beginning to enjoy the cool choices of stuff I could by the groom until I got to the men’s watches… well I kind of walked into that one because I deliberately navigated to that part of Amazon (just to sneak a peek…); I have never been so confused!

To demonstrate to you what I mean… here is one watch you can either buy for yourself, or for your friend(s)… this time we can let it be the situation where the man chooses the watch…

Fan Expo 2016: Tyler Hoechlin

Having spent half his life in the business, starting early on the Road to Perdition, coming of age on 7th Heaven and most recently exploring his wilder side on Teen Wolf, the career of Tyler Hoechlin (the first syllable rhymes with “folk”) seems almost fated. While his chiseled jaw, piercing blue eyes and warm, easy smile may not be entirely responsible for this overall good fortune, they certainly warranted the no-marriage-proposals warning that the MC issued before he took the stage (The Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder had to fend off a number last year).

In the wide field of supernatural teen dramas, Teen Wolf stands out for its depth and maturity. Being no stranger to the genre, I was skeptical of a show entitled Teen Wolf. After a single episode however, I found myself remarkably willing to continue researching the subject. How could I possibly write about the dark and mysterious character of Derrick Hale we meet in the first season? I needed to keep watching – to learn more about the character of course! It seems I am far from the only one to have this kind of reaction to the show.
